Gulf Oil Spill Ruins Many Lives while Few See Profits
What has happened, and what can we do?

When we look close at causes and effects of this spill it is obvious profit has displaced safety. How can the Gulf of Mexico, wildlife, humans and vital economies heal from this crisis? In my opinion common sense is the real answer.
We need to look from the top down for an answer to this question, and how we will remedy the situation. For too long politicians, President Obama included, have gotten away with saying one thing when in fact actions result in tainted legislation leading to disasters like this. Extremely unhealthy situations resulting from the “War for Oil” in the Middle East were exacerbated during the George W. Bush Administration, and continue with our present situation. In this article, we will look at circumstances leading to this tragedy, and explain why they exist.
Now let’s look at the causes first, then figure out the remedies. The main causes can be summed up in two words: Greed and Money. Lobbying efforts that have bought and sold too many politicians controlling legislation in DC [and other countries] has led to tainted situations that have trumped reason. Yet when confronted with a case allowing Lobbyists even more financial clout in our Government, even the Supreme Court voted to give lobbyists even more financial clout. Is anything new here? Is there really anyone out there that is willing put environmental and health concerns ahead of financial gain, and when they exist why aren’t they elected?
Next let’s look at the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill, and events leading up to it. Shortly before the rig blew up, Barack Obama was calling for more off shore drilling. Many wondered why, yet few knew that he received more campaign contributions from BP [British Petroleum] operatives than they had ever given toward a political campaign. Once again, money talks, regardless of promises to get elected, like Obama suggesting he would fund clean green alternatives.
Earlier this year [2010] our President even suggested an estimated $54billion to help Illinois campaign contributors get contracts for more Nuclear Power Plants!!!??? …when we know what happened with 3 Mile Island and Chernobyl. Yet where is the funding for clean, green energy resources?
Many say solar, wind, and biofuel technologies are simply premature, need more research, or we need more time to implement them. Yet even in these cases, money talks. Funding for clean, viable resources will get the job done, while we know nuclear and fossil fuel technologies are very limited and sometimes result in tragedies or non-reversible injuries and illnesses. A saddening situation here is when viable alternatives are funded, price of oil goes down, leading to pressures or limited profit put ahead of what will really sustain us as a viable, economically independent society, by implementing change when we need it.
Shortly after this rig exploded, the Netherlands offered to assist, with needed technologies that could have averted lots of the oil, and saved doom created from many aspects. Yet documentation suggested that both the Obama Administration and BP turned them down, yet are finally asking for help over a month later.
What has BP done to stem effects of the oil run-off? Spray a dispersant manufactured by NALCO, that does nothing but challenge life as we know it, There are numerous financial, high level money flow ties to NALCO’s Corexit 9500, the chemical dispersant being used. High level corporate interests all the way to the White House are involved, and basically why this tragedy is getting worse by the day, while viable resources and technologies that could stop this are overlooked.
There are alternatives, like bioregeneration that simply dissolves the oil into nutrient that will not kill or poison living entities. Simple solutions like spreading hay or straw along our coasts will adequately soak up oil before it destroys estuaries, beaches, or other vital areas. Paul Stamets, a renowned specialist in mycelium / mushroom technologies has suggested mycoremediation as another viable alternative. Yet none of these clean green technologies have been utilized.
If this short discourse does not give you better understanding why this situation exists, look at the following links, research and articles for further evidence validating these words. While you are at it, pray for a safe and healthy recovery from this devastation, yet don’t hold your breath until it happens…
Do your part, and call your elected representatives to share your outrage or insight. Demand they do something before a severely bad situation gets worse.
